Windows 8 apps to run and sync on Xbox One, suggests Dell

Windows 8 apps could run on and sync on the Xbox One, if the information Dell is providing is accurate.

According to the Dell Microsoft Xbox One page, not only will you be able to run Windows 8 apps on your Xbox One, but they will sync between devices as well.

“Consider the game officially changed. With all your favourite Windows 8 apps able to be run on and synced to your Xbox One, now your phone, desktop, tablet and TV can all give you a unified web and entertainment experience”, reads the Dell Xbox One blurb.

Although this aligns well with the company’s aim to merge its Windows systems across smartphones, desktops, tablets and other devices, Microsoft has said that Windows 8 apps won’t be cross-compatible without extra development input.

However, Dell hasn’t removed the Xbox One and its related Windows 8 compatibility, which suggests there is truth to the statement.

Microsoft released the Windows 8.1 update late last week, offering the new version as a free download for Windows 8 devices.

The Windows Phone 8 Update 3 also became available earlier this month ahead of a purported Nokia Lumia 1520 launch tomorrow, October 22.

The Xbox One release date has been scheduled for November 22 in thirteen worldwide markets, down from the original 21 markets announced at launch. This was due to Kinect voice compatibility and software issues.

Microsoft may well announce Windows 8 and Xbox One functionality before this date, but we expect further information to arrive in the months after the release date.

The Xbox One will retail for £429 with one Wireless Controller, the new Kinect and a digital copy of a selected title.

Its rival the PS4 will launch a week later on November 29 for £349.
