Microsoft is testing a new feature for Windows 10 that should make pairing Bluetooth devices a doddle.
The latest developer build of Windows 10 – 17093 – saw the introduction of Streamlined Pairing, a feature that pushes an actionable notification when a nearby Bluetooth accessory is in a discoverable state, eliminating the need to delve through a number of different screens to find the section to add a new device.
Here’s the catch: Streamlined Pairing requires specific hardware to function – and it can only be found in Microsoft’s high-end Surface Precision Mouse at present. The firm is working with a number of leading peripheral manufacturers – including Logitech and Razer – to bring the tool to the mass market, however.

Streamlined Pairing will debut for the public in the next major build of Windows 10, as well as a number of much-requested features, according to The Verge. Recent rumours suggest that the release will be called the Windows 10 Spring Creators Update, so no prizes for guessing when it will start making the rounds.
It’s thought that the Spring Creators Update will be headlined by Timeline – Microsoft’s long-rumoured rival to Apple’s Handoff utility. If that’s the case, users will finally have a way to transfer open content – an email thread or a Word document, for example – from one Windows machine to another.
