Windows 10 on USB is available to pre-order via Amazon in US

With the Windows 10 roll out commencing in just a couple of weeks, Microsoft has made physical copies of the OS available to pre-order in the United States. The format? USB stick.

The company has placed the Windows 10 Home and Pro Editions (English and Spanish versions) on Amazon, with a promised release date of August 16. Whether this date is accurate, or not, remains to be seen.

The official launch date for Windows 10 is July 29, but Microsoft has promised a staggered release starting with the firm’s Windows Insider testers.

Although speculation has been rife for months, this is the first time Microsoft has actually confirmed the USB stick delivery mechanism, which is good news for those with dodgy internet connections and without DVD drives.

In a statement issued to VentureBeat, Microsoft wrote: “Windows 10 will be available on USB drives for purchase in retail channels shortly after launch,”

“The suggested retail prices for Windows 10 in the US are the same as Windows 8.1.”

Interestingly, the Amazon page also points out that the Windows 10 upgrade is free for anyone with a machine running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

So, don’t go pre-ordering if you’re already entitled to a freebie y’hear!
