Wimbledon bans ‘nuisance’ selfie sticks
Heading to the All England Lawn Tennis Club this summer? You’re going to want to leave your beloved selfie stick behind.
Ahead of the Lawn Tennis Association’s June and July showpiece, Wimbledon’s powers that be have confirmed that those attending the annual tennis tournament will not be allowed to bring in their ‘nuisance’ smartphone peripherals.
Instead, those desperate to social their time at the tennis will have to revert to traditional means of capturing one’s excitement – an overstretched arm, an unflattering angle and pained expression.
Far from the first sporting event to ban the scourge of every tourist destination, Wimbledon is following in the footsteps of football clubs Arsenal and Tottenham which have already put a bar on the vanity poles.

While Wimbledon has banned selfie sticks due to a ‘nuisance’ factor, Arsenal opposed their use inside the Emirates Stadium due to fears they could be used as a weapon.
“We can confirm that ‘selfie sticks’ are banned on match days at Emirates Stadium,” the North London club confirmed back in January.
“The club’s ground regulations prohibit any object that could be used as a weapon or could compromise public safety.”
Wimbledon 2015 is set to be held between June 29 and July 12.
