Will the next iPad Pro support 5G? New reports claim it will

A pair of new reports have come out insinuating that Apple’s next-gen iPads will come with 5G support – but it might be too early to get our hopes up about the future tablet line’s connectivity.

According to the two reports published by DigiTimes, the next iPad is going to come with 5nm-based A14 chips and have built-in support for mmWave, which is a 5G frequency (via MacRumors.) This all sounds very exciting but sadly, for now, it’s also completely unconfirmed by Apple.

Back in 2019 there were reports that we’d have to wait until 2021 for a 5G -ready iPad Pro. However, it is possible that Apple has decided to speed up the inclusion of the new tech after realising how quickly it was emerging on competitors’ products – just last month, Samsung announced its own 5G-ready tablet.

Apple is usually rather blasé about the whole 5G scene, refusing to break a sweat when competitors beat them to the 5G finish line with smartphones. But tablets are a different kind of beast – Apple has smugly nabbed the market share of this gadget with a whopping 34.6% claim.

At the last tally, Samsung was dragging behind in second position with a measly 15.1% chunk. Given this, it’s hard to imagine Apple not trying to out-do its main rival, or at least match the specs.

The Galaxy Tab S6 has an 855 Snapdragon processor, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It also comes with a 10.5-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display and a dual-camera setup.

If Apple wants to maintain this level of market-share, it may to match or out-do the company on all of these fronts – this might mean adopting 5G, but we wouldn’t rule out the possibility that the next iPad will come with a triple-camera setup either.

Then again though, this is Apple.
