Will the LG V20 be the best phone for audio ever?

With IFA fast approaching, LG is gearing up for its own four day event in early September where the LG V20 is set to be the main attraction.

Ahead of its official unveiling, the company has confirmed the forthcoming V20 will be the first phone to feature 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC (digital to analog converter) capabilities.

LG claims that the new audio hardware should produce sound “that comes closest to a live performance when using compatible wired headphones”.

It should also ensure that ambient noise levels are reduced by 50%, and videos taken with the phone will come with a ‘soundtrack’ that can “capture the roaring sound of waves crashing on a beach or conversations among two individuals at a noisy party”.

LG says it worked with high-performance audio specialists ESS Technology on the new Quad DAC – the same company that provided the 32-bit Hi-Fi DAC in the V10, predecessor to the V20.

Robert Blair, president and chief executive officer of ESS Technology, said: “As a technology more typically available in high-end audio equipment, Quad DAC on the V20 will make users feel as if they are carrying around a professional home-audio system on their smartphone.”

This latest news comes after LG confirmed the V20 will come with the latest version of the Android OS, Android 7.0 Nougat – something lacking from Samsung’s latest high-end device, the Galaxy Note 7.

The V20 is also expected to arrive with a 5.7-inch screen with a 1,440 x 2,560 resolution, a Snapdragon 820 chip, and 4GB RAM, although this is yet to be confirmed.

What is confirmed however, is that the phone will debut on September 6, so stay tuned for more information as the date nears.
