Wide Angle Webcams

Creative creates models that can show more than has ever been shown before!

Webcams, just the word alone is enough to make most teenage boys snigger (then again almost anything can make teenage boys snigger), but that hasn’t stopped Creative upping the ante with two new headlining models.

The WebCam Live! Ultra (above) and WebCam Live! Ultra for notebooks (below) with their obligatory exclamation marks should appeal to any hardcore (cough) webcam user since they both feature high quality CCD sensors and ultra wide angle lenses which Creative claims will offer a 50 per cent wider field of view than previous releases.

Max res is a respectable 640×480 at up to 30 fps. Stills can be snapped at 1.3 megapixels with interpolation and a 4x digital zoom makes things interesting. Naturally to achieve these specs the Live! and Live! for notebooks use USB2.0 connections.

Just like Star Trek, the bundled Multi-Person Smart Face Tracking software can be used to recognise and track users automatically. A suite of utilities also enables video and photo editing, multimedia, email, WebCam based communications (choke), remote monitoring (splutter), motion detection (giggle), time lapse, ad infinitum.

While spec wise these cams are identical, they stand via very different methods. The Live! Uses a malleable tripod arrangement that means it can be placed on a desktop or clipped to a monitor, while the Notebook variant uses what Creative terms its “Power Grip” (I can’t help it… snigger!) to attach to the display.

Should the Live! or Live! for Notebooks be providing you with certain inspiration, you’ll be pleased to know they are available immediately and can ease your red bloodedness for £79.99 and £69.99 (incl. VAT) respectively.

I should point out Webcams can be used for perfectly innocent purposes… …”apparently?”
