The BlackBerry Passport, the unusually boxy smartphone heading for launch this September, will land in both black and white colour schemes, the Canadian manufacturer has confirmed.
With the traditional black handset having been unveiled earlier this year, a white BlackBerry Passport has now been showcased, with the lighter toned device said to feature a ‘porcelain feel’ rear – whatever that might be.
Aside from being a point of variety against the mass of dull black handsets, the Passport isn’t just any old white in colour, oh no, BlackBerry has said it has used a bespoke shade of white to better accentuate the phone’s metallic edging.

With feel of a smartphone almost as important as how it looks, the white Passport has been bestowed with a ‘porcelain feel’ rear which the company claims is “smooth to the touch while providing grip”.
A squat, 3.18-inch wide handset, the Passport is set to feature a 4.5-inch square display with a 1440 x 1440 pixel resolution.
Powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM, the Passport will be released this September with an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera in tow alongside a 3.7-inch snapper up front.
Despite having received mixed feedback since its unveiling due largely to its unconventional dimensions, BlackBerry has suggested it believes this is exactly what could make the phone a hit.
“The Passport leverages our strengths and heritage, yet is new and innovative,” Paschke said.
He added: “As the name implies, the format is inspired by a traveller’s passport; a familiar and universal symbol of mobility. This familiarity has potential to leverage existing systems and standards.”
