West Ham vs Chelsea match preview
Chelsea have been excellent recently, having convincingly beaten Aston Villa, Leicester and Man City since the restart. The blues currently sit fourth in the table, while West Ham are clinging on, just above the drop zone, in 17th – only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.
If the Hammers fail to win tonight and their rivals, Bournemouth, can win their game against Newcastle, then West Ham could finish the evening in the drop zone. They’re currently even with Bournemouth on just 27 points from 31 league games.
The East Londoners’ form has been torrid since the restart, losing 2-0 to both Wolves and Tottenham. David Moyes was brought in to steady the ship when results went the wrong way under Manuel Pellegrini, but the Scot’s reign has seen the Hammers slip further down the table. Now they’re genuinely threatened by relegation.
In their annual financial statement, released in January, West Ham stated that it was “an absolute necessity” that the club remains in the Premier League. So, the looming threat of relegation is an especially daunting one for Hammers fans. With the club having invested heavily in its stadium, managers and playing staff, relegation could spell serious trouble.

It’s hard to look past a Chelsea win this evening, but West Ham desperately need some points and Hammers fans will hope they can spring an upset. It’s well worth tuning in to see if they can.
