We’d Like To palmOne Tungsten E2

The super popular Tungsten E gets its first revision and the sound of running feet can be heard everywhere.

The Tungsten E is palmOne’s best selling device, with units hitting the two million mark and still going strong. We think the numbers might drop off now its released the E2, however, as a new scramble begins all over again.

To be fair to palmOne it already knows it is onto a winner with the E, so not a lot has changed with the E2. It adds Bluetooth, a faster Intel 200MHz Xscale processor, longer lasting battery and an improved 320 x 320, 65k colour screen, but like we said about Logitech’s impossibly stylish diNovo 2 keyboard, good designs don’t change, they are merely refined.

Consequently, the E2 doesn’t pull out too many other surprises. The controls are identical, keeping the five way navigator, the same 32MB of memory (of which 26MB is actual storage space) and SD expansion slot. It runs on the latest version of Palm OS Garnet v5.4 and is actually slightly thicker than its predecessor with dimensions of 11.4 x 7.8 x 1.5cm and 2g heavier at 133g.

In the box you get a power adaptor, stylus, flip cover, USB sync cable, Palm Desktop and Microsoft software conduit, manuals and a “Graffiti 2” sticker (anyone care to tell me what one of those is?). Preloaded onto the device itself, aside from the OS, is Documents to Go, Bluetooth manager, the Blazer web browser, phone dialler and the usual apps such as a calendar, calculator, notepad, memo taker and the like.

RRP for the E2 is a reasonable £169 including VAT (the E drops to £149) and you can grab it from palmOne’s UK website now.
