Watch Wimbledon 2013 live on YouTube starting Monday June 24
Tennis fans will be able to watch Wimbledon 2013 live via YouTube, the Google owned video sharing service has confirmed.
Ensuring you don’t miss any of the action from the iconic grass court tournament, YouTube will live stream matches direct from Wimbledon 2013, with the official Wimbledon YouTube channel to let fans enjoy all the latest action staring the likes of Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
Pairing live action from Wimbledon 2013 with highlight packages and even some classic footage from some of Wimbledon’s most iconic matches, the YouTube coverage will all be free to access and is sure to help pass some office hours for avid tennis fans.
“
With the Wimbledon YouTube channel to also offer exclusive behind the scenes content from the championship and press conference access, the online YouTube coverage could well rival the BBC for the place to watch Wimbledon 2013. As part of its own coverage plan, the BBC will live stream Wimbledon 2013 online and through BBC iPlayer while the official Wimbledon app will also host live coverage.
The official YouTube announcement added: “Catch the key moments of the tennis, interviews, behind the scenes and press conferences throughout the Wimbledon fortnight. You can also relive all the glory days of Wimbledon’s golden moments, such as one of the greatest matches ever played, the 2008 Wimbledon Men’s Singles Final: Rafael Nadal vs. Roger Federer.”
Often a testing pot for emerging broadcasting technologies, Wimbledon has previously been used to test 3D broadcasts. Continuing the theme, this year’s tournament will see Sony and the BBC join forces to trial 4K, ultra HD broadcasts.
“We’re trialing 4K at Wimbledon this year,” Sony confirmed earlier this year. “We’re really excited about 4K, it’s definitely something the public are going to love so we’re keen to start rolling it out as soon as possible. When you look at it, you feel something, like the jump from SD to HD, it’s amazing. Wimbledon is going to look better than ever.”
