This week marks 15 years since the world was first introduced to the original Xbox, and there’s no doubt the console has come a long way since its debut in 2000.
We’ve since seen the advent of the Xbox 360, the needlessly bulky Xbox One, and this year, the slimmed-down, 4K-capable Xbox One S.
But back when the first iteration was launched, and Bill Gates took to the stage at GDC 2000, the age of Xbox was just beginning.
And during that event, you might remember the prototype Microsoft proudly displayed, which NeoGaf user Rösti has kindly managed to screen-cap for us all.

Now, Head of Xbox Games Marketing at Microsoft, Aaron Greenberg, has taken to Twitter to reveal that ridiculous prototype is still kicking around at the Microsoft offices.

For those in need of a reminder, here’s how the original Xbox actually looked:
The video shows the extravagant prototype design looking decidedly less proud, sitting on a desk without the controller or the green light that illuminated its core at the launch event.
It’s unclear whether Microsoft actually considered this as a serious design for the original Xbox, and Greenberg doesn’t provide much information with his update.
