Watch the Lexus Hoverboard move for the first time

We’ve seen loads of claimed ‘hoverboards’ over the years, but we’re always left a bit disappointed by the final thing.
Fortunately, we might finally be able to live our Back To The Future-esque dreams of gliding down the pavement thanks to Lexus.
The car company released a video last month giving us a brief glimpse of a real, working hoverboard, but there’s now an official date for the big reveal.
The luxury automotive giant is set to unveil the ‘Slide’ on August 5, as revealed in a new video that shows the hoverboard actually moving for the very first time.

However, we’ve yet to see a person riding the wheel-less skateboard. That’s obviously being saved for next week’s unveiling.
“When technology, design, and imagination come together amazing things can be achieved,” says Lexus, in its mysterious description of the device.
But how does it actually work? Lexus claims the board uses magnetic levitation paired with liquid nitrogen-cooled superconductors to achieve ghostly locomotion.
Unfortunately, that does mean the hoverboard only works on specially-designed metal surfaces.
But hey, we’d rather that than no hoverboard at all.
