As you may have heard, the Hulu TV and movie subscription service has a new app for Apple TV owners. The only trouble is, the popular service is only available in the US and Japan.
The thing is, this new app makes it easier than ever to watch US TV content from here in the UK.
As pointed out by The Next Web, all you need to do is set up a US iTunes account (which really is very easy to do) and add some funds by acquiring US iTunes gift cards.
You’ll have to import the latter. There are companies out there who will sell you them, or if you have a friend in the US it’s time to call in a favour.
This workaround is only possible now with the iTunes app, as Apple restricts app developers from viewing user information. Prior to this, non-US users would have to set up proxies to fool the Hulu service intho thinking they were accessing from within the US.
Of course, it’s quite possible that Apple will clamp down on this behaviour in some way, or that Hulu itself will find way of monitoring and blocking who’s accessing their content through this iTunes exploit. Until then, though, this appears to be a good solution for those of us hooked on US TV.
Hulu is a joint venture from NBC, Fox and Disney that allows you to watch TV shows, films, and other material over an internet connection. Some of that TV content is exclusive to Hulu users.
Hulu had planned to launch in the UK way back in 2009, but has been unable to sign the required content deals.
