Watch Dogs Wii U release date listed as autumn 2014 by Ubisoft

Ubsioft has newly listed the Watch Dogs Wii U release date for autumn 2014, several months after the first launch wave.

The oft-delayed Wii U version of Watch Dogs might not arrive until the autumn, according to an official Ubisoft Uplay listing.

The North American version of the Uplay Store showed a “fall 2014” release date for the standard edition of Watch Dogs for the Wii U, which is the first time we’ve seen an approximate launch window for the edition for quite some time.

Nintendo Enthusiast reached out to Ubisoft and were told by a representative that the developer is targeting an autumn launch for the Wii U version of the open-world game.

Ubisoft revealed the Wii U version of the game would not arrive with the PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC editions on May 27.

Instead, the developer said it would arrive at a later date, with a 2014 release only a possibility.

Bizarrely, the European version of the Ubisoft Uplay store lists the Wii U version to launch on May 27 like all the other platforms, but we’re guessing this is just a mistake.

The game was originally scheduled to launch in November 2013, but was pushed back to May in order to improve the game and polish it before release.

Speaking at GDC 2014, Ubisoft’s VP of Creative Lionel Raynaud said the delay has had a huge effect on the game.

“It’s made a big difference – we’ve polished everything,” said Raynaud. “The things we’ve developed the most are the interactions with hacking, and how in many situations being smart with chain reactions can offer something unique from any other open-world game.”

“If we weren’t able to deliver this aspect, it wouldn’t feel new enough to be worth a new IP.”
