Fans hoping to see a brand new Apple TV set-top box arrive at the WWDC 2015 keynote next week should prepare themselves for disappointment, reports late on Wednesday claimed.
New York Times sources say Apple has shelved plans to showcase the revamped streaming device “because the product was not ready to be demonstrated.”
Previous rumours have suggested a new set-top box would feature Siri voice commands, a touchpad-enabled remote and App Store integration, as well as the prospect of a new TV streaming offering.
As previously reported, the NYT points out Apple has also has experienced problems securing deals with content providers for the platform, which would seek to integrate local programming.
The once-derided Apple TV “hobby project” is also set to act as a home hub, allowing iOS device owners to remotely control HomeKit-enabled connected gadgets, while away from the home.

The lack of new hardware doesn’t rule out that possibility, given Apple’s assurances earlier on Wednesday that the current 3rd-gen Apple TV can be used with HomeKit.
Nonetheless, the absence of Apple TV hardware, either through slipped deadlines or by design, would leave a TV-sized hole in the keynote address, which takes place on Monday.
