VoodooPC uses a custom Xbox to provide easy control of its VIBE Home AV system.
VoodooPC has launched a Home Theatre AV PC that works in conjunction with a specially modded Xbox to connect to the TV in the lounge.
The Voodoo VIBE PC acts as a central media server while the custom VIBE Xbox connects to the TV. In addition to playing XBox games the setup enables you to stream videos, display slide shows, play MP3s and FM Radio, and even burn recordings to DVD from the VIBE XBOX to the VIBE HTPC.
VoodooPC has used an Xbox as the interface to the TV due to its ease of use compared to a regular PC.
“Rather than taking a standard PC and making it more difficult to hook up to your TV, we designed the system around the Xbox so someone like my mom could work it,” said Jan Strzepka, VP Business Development, “Not only can my mom work it, but now she doesn’t get off the couch.”
The VIBE PC server is equipped with an AMD Athlon 64 processor, up to 1.6 Terrabytes of storage, and nVidia Geforce 6800 Ultra graphics. It also features a dual tuner capable of recording and playing back TV and FM radio. The VIBE system is specially designed to emit as little noise as possible and uses a Logitech Harmony Remote to enable users to control every infrared capable device in the home.
VoodooPC told us that it hopes to have a UK specific version with PAL tuners available in a couple of weeks.
