Weight of Hatton, punch of Klitschko.
It is one of the greatest recent advances in notebook technology that they can now stand toe-to-toe with most desktop gaming equivalents. The downside is that many are little smaller than their ATX brethren, though that could be about to change.
At 396 x 292 x 39mm and 3.8Kg the Voodoo ENVY u:734 may be a good few kilos away from joining the slim and light class, but it is equally far clear of the majority of flagship gaming laptops. Despite giving away such a weight advantage, however, it manages to sacrifice none of the features.
An Intel Core Duo T2600 processor provides the u:734’s with a powerful beating heart and it is backed up by nVidia’s top of the line GeForce 7900 GTX card. A cracking 17in WUXGA (1900 x 1200) widescreen display means it can handle even 1080p high def broadcasts while two gigs of DDR2 533MHz RAM won’t let the side down.
You can’t get bigger than the 160GB HDD stuffed inside and the usual niceties such as WiFi, Bluetooth, a DVD writer, card reader, and Gigabit Ethernet are all present and correct. The company also claims that with a second battery fitted (in place of the removable drive bay) users can expect up to five hours of gaming action, a truly superb figure. Furthermore, the usual plethora of custom colour finishes and trademark Voodoo tattoos can be added to give it a truly standout look.
The u:734 is available immediately and though it retails from 2,990 euros that can easily spiral to over 3,800 euros if you want the top spec. That said, sexy models come with a high price tag, didn’t you learn that from Sister Agatha in Catholic School?
