Vodafone customers will now be able to take advantage of the network provider’s new £5 per day roaming charges.
Following the launch of Three’s Feel at Home service, Vodafone has launched a new WorldTraveller Zone service that allows you to use your UK minutes, texts and data in specific countries.
The WorldTraveller deal lets you use your contracted minutes, texts and data allowance in the USA, India, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Ghana, Qatar and South Africa for an additional £5 per day.
Available to Pay Monthly customers, the WorldTraveller service also lets you receive calls and texts for free.
Those travelling to EU countries this summer can also use their monthly allowances for an additional £2 per day with Vodafone’s Europe Zone, until August 31 anyway.
To sign up for the service, just dial 5555 from your Vodafone smartphone.
It’s not quite as good a deal as Three’s Feel at Home though, which lets Three customers on Pay Monthly, SIM-only and PAYG use their allocated text, minutes and data packages in 16 destinations across the world for free.
However, it’s a huge step forward for ensuring customers are getting a good roaming deal, which often leaves people with huge bills.
The European Union recently passed legislation to cut roaming charges with new price caps. Data roaming charges saw the biggest price reduction, with costs slashed to 16p per MB before VAT, down from 32p per MB.
Calling from EU countries will now cost you a maximum 15p per minute rather than 19p and the cost to receive dropped to 4p from 6p per minute.
As for text messages, you’ll now only pay 5p (down from 6p) to send a message those back home.
The changes came into effect on July 1 for customers roaming in countries part of the European Union.
