Vodafone now allowing 4G roaming in 40 countries

Vodafone customers in the UK can now use their full voice, text and data plans in 40 countries around the world, without the risk of racking up crippling post-holiday bills.
On Thursday the company announced it had added 17 new countries to the scheme, which allows customers to use their phones normally, while abroad, for a pre-set daily fee.
The opt-in scheme, announced a few months back, costs £3 per day in Europe and £5 elsewhere in the world.
If users go over their allowance they’ll only be charged at the UK rate, while there are none of those ugly charges for receiving calls and texts. The only exclusion is for streaming services, which aren’t included in the allowance.
So, if you’re off to Spain for a week this winter, it’ll only cost you £21 to use your phone as you normally would, rather than the hundreds of pounds you’d probably be liable for otherwise.
Today’s additions are: Antigua & Barbuda, Cayman Islands, Croatia, Israel, Japan, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
They join existing the existing countries: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands,New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan and USA.
The announcement is great news for Vodafone’s customers planning a trip to one of those countries in the near future and could result in a significant reallocation of funds towards fun rather than bills.
However, despite having more nations in its arsenal, Vodafone still falls a little short of Three’s offering which grants free roaming as part of a data plan in 16 countries around the world, including France, USA and Australia.
Are we finally approaching that mobile nirvana where we can travel anywhere in the world without worrying about the cost? Let’s hope so. Share your thoughts below.
