Here’s how to get a free Virgin Media V6 4K TV box – but check your existing deal first
Virgin Media is offering its customers a free top-of-the-line TV box upgrade, but you’ll need to check your contract to get the best out of the offer.
The company said it’ll offer its V6 TV box, which launched December 2016, to some 2.8 million existing customers without hiking up their contract costs.
Similar to Sky’s Q box, Virgin’s V6 TV box can be used to watch live TV, stream on-demand content, and allow selected content to be viewed on mobiles and tablets around a home. It also allows for six programmes to be recorded at once at the same time as viewing a programme.
It’s an attractive offer for customers familiar with Virgin’s TV services. However, given the V6 TV box has been out more than a year, it’s likely being offered to customers who are nearing the end of their contract or are already out of contract.
As such, MoneySavingExpert points out that if people make use of the V6 TV box while they are on a rolling contract they could lose out on the attractive introductory offers or the potential to negotiate with Virgin Media to get an improved deal. This could end up with them paying significantly more for a service that they could get at a discounted deal if they haggle with Virgin Media or start a new contract.
It’s also worth noting that to get the high-end TV box up and running, users will need to have a connection speed of at least 50Mbps. As such, it’s always worth checking your broadband connection and shopping around for other competitive deals before being enticed in by a freebie.
