Virgin America now offering Spotify streaming at 35,000 feet

Virgin America has announced it is bringing access to Spotify’s vast music streaming library to passengers, free of charge for a limited time.

Branson’s fleet will be the first airline to offer the service, thanks to the new in-flight ViaSat Wi-Fi connectivity.

There’ll also be destination-inspired playlists for those heading to the Hotel California, getting set for a little Viva Las Vegas action or even heading to see all the exes that live in Texas.

The connectivity will be available on users’ own phones, tablets and laptops rather than any in-flight entertainment system, without handing over cash for in-flight Wi-Fi access.

Also availabile will be access to New York Times articles, a la what you’ll get in Starbucks and other partner retailers and web providers.

This offer will last until March 2 2016 and, if you’re planning a flight with Virgin America in that timeframe, you can sign up for a free-trial of Spotify Premium in order to make the most of the offer. Otherwise you can access Spotify Free.

Earlier this year Virgin America announced Netflix streaming will be available on flights too. That promotion also lasts until March 2.

After that, folks will need to reply on the in-flight entertainment system in order to get their fix of free entertainment content.

“Whether you’re on the ground or in the air, simply pick which hot spot you’re heading to, then select one of our city-mood lists to start your jam or explore the full Spotify catalog of music. Not on Spotify? Don’t worry, you can sign-up to listen for free or to enjoy a complimentary Spotify Premium 30-day trial,” Virgin said in the announcement.
