Vine launches on Windows Phone 8 with exclusive features

A Vine app has finally launched for Windows Phone 8 devices, offering exclusive features not available in the Android and iOS versions.

Nokia announced Vine was coming to Windows Phone 8 devices back in July, but offered no indication as to when the video sharing app would arrive in the Windows Phone Store.

The Windows Phone Vine app launched today, November 12, and brings some exclusive features with it.

“Today we’re launching Vine for Windows Phone, making it easy for even more people to capture and share life in motion,” reads the Vine blog. “We love to see what each person contributes to Vine, and we’re excited to welcome Windows Phone users to the community.”

Similar to the Android and iOS app versions, Windows Phone users can simply tap and hold to create short, looping video with audio.

There are a range of tools to use, including Instagram-like filters and grid lines to help create your personal, animated GIFs on Windows Phone devices like the Nokia Lumia 1020 and Nokia Lumia 620.

“Unique to Windows Phone, you can pin your favourite Vine accounts to your homescreen, and use Pivots to easily switch between your apps.”

You can also use the Explore function to discover what’s popular on Vine as well.

Available as a free download from the Windows Phone Store, you can also access Vine from within the device’s camera mode, for even easier access to the Twitter-owned service.

The Vine app is only compatible with Windows Phone 8 devices,

Windows Phone still lacks some of the key apps available on Android and iOS devices, but developers are working to increase the high profile apps available on the service.

Instagram is scheduled to land in the Windows Phone Store “in the coming weeks”, having been announced during the Nokia World event in late October by Nokia CEO Stephen Elop.
