Video Tuner Windows Phone 8.1 app launches for Nokia smartphones

Microsoft has announced its free Video Tuner app making it easier to edit videos on Nokia Windows Phone 8.1 smartphones

The bespoke video sharing app developed by the former Nokia imaging team will be exclusively available to all Nokia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 including budget duo the Nokia Lumia 630 and 635.

Available as a free download, users will be able to trim, slow down footage, brighten colours, add music, apply filters, rotate, crop and share video.

There’s are some caveats with how you can use it though like the fact that supported MP4 video files have to be recorded on the same phone. Additionally, MP3 tracks have to either be copied from a PC, purchased from the Xbox Music Store or taken from the Nokia Lumia’s MixRadio application. All of the footage can be saved to Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage locker so you always have access to it.

Video can be directly shared to Instagram although it currently doesn’t provide the same support for Vine. Users will be able to save the six second videos in the Vine format but you’ll have to upload it to the video-sharing site through the Vine app.

In addition to the arrival of the Video Tuner app, Microsoft has also revealed that it will be opening its Imaging SDK to third party developers so hopefully we can expect more photo editing and filter-packing Windows Phone 8.1 applications in the not too distant future.

Both announcements coincide with the imminent UK launch of the Nokia Lumia 930, Microsoft’s flagship Windows Phone 8.1 handset that features a 20-megapixel PureView main camera with optical image stabilization, Dual LED flash and ZEISS optics.

The Lumia 930 will be available in the UK from July 17th for free on contracts starting from £33 a month. The Video Tuner should be available to download from the UK Windows Store within the next few hours with a global launch to follow shortly after.
