We may never be able to stop people recording vertical videos, but Google has at least made watching them a little more bearable on its YouTube Android app.
Now when you play a YouTube video that was recorded vertically, it will display in full-screen.
Previously, vertical videos always displayed with black bars either side of the footage, regardless of which way you had your phone positioned.
As of YouTube 10.28, videos will play as intended when you’re holding a handset in its vertical position.

Unfortunately it’s still not clear whether the change will be coming to iOS any time soon.
