UX31A and UX21A To Be Called Asus Zenbook Prime, Backlit Keyboard In Tow

It looks like Asus’ new Ultrabooks really will be the ones to beat this time around. When we reviewed the current generation in the form of the Asus Zenbook UX31, it fell short of being all it could, held back by its average screen, lack of keyboard backlighting, and a few other niggles. The new Zenbooks, however, look to be the bee’s knees, well worthy of their Zenbook Prime designation.

The most dramatic improvements for both the UX31A and UX21A are of course the matt 1080p IPS screens and Ivy Bridge processors we already talked about. However, now our final requirement has been granted, as Asus has added backlighting to the keyboards – and also Intel’s Wireless Display (WiDi), for those few who are aware of it. We can’t wait to face these ultraportables off against the current Ultrabook champion, the Samsung Series 9 900X3B.

Now if Asus truly wanted to fulfill our every wish, there would be a convertible Zenbook Prime with touch plus pressure-sensitive stylus support, and a discrete Nvidia Kepler Series 6 graphics card for a bit of gaming – oh, please excuse us while we go chase that pig we just saw flying past.
