Refreshed MacBook Air set to launch alongside new MacBook Pros this October?

Fresh rumours suggest that the new 2016 MacBook Pro expected to be launched by Apple at a special October event will be joined by a refreshed 13-inch MacBook Air model featuring USB-C ports.

That’s the latest according to occasionally accurate Japanese fanboy blog Mac Otakara (H/T MacRumours), which cites a “reliable Chinese supplier” as revealing that new 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pros will be joined by an upgraded 13-inch MacBook Air.

All of the laptops will feature USB Type-C ports when they debut, supposedly at a special Apple launch event later this month.

What’s interesting about the latest speculation is the apparent absence of a refreshed 11-inch MacBook Air alongside the 13-inch update. Could Apple be set to shutter its smaller ultraportable now that it also makes a 12-inch MacBook?

We’re expecting to learn more on or around 27 October, which is when Apple’s MacBook event is being tipped to take place. That would mean invites most likely being sent out this Thursday (20 October).

As well as sporting USB Type-C ports, the new MacBook Pros are rumoured to represent a significant design overhaul for Apple. Laptops are mooted to be slimmed-down machines featuring a flat keyboard and an OLED touch panel instead of physical keys at the top of the keyboard.
