UPDATED: 7800 GTX Card Roundup

See what bundles are out there...

We can’t forget MSI either. The NX7800GTX (a slight variation, but nothing too terrifyingly Gigabyte about it) checks all the right boxes and chucks in a copy of Chronicles of Riddick to boot. It also wins brownie points for being the first manufacturer to give us a proper UK price: £399 including VAT, though it is quick to point out web sites are selling it at £379.

AOpen has gone down the conservative naming route too (seems like the wise option to us) with the Aeolus (does that sound inappropriately close to something else to you to?) 7800GTX-DVD256. The card has two big freaky red heads on it, but the software bundle and price remains a mystery. Still, a company has to prioritise and faced with the same dilemma I’d go with two big freaky red heads too.

That’s it for now. We expect to see more from the likes of XFX and Asus soon (we’re got one from the former skipping its merry MHz screaming, fps tearing tippy-toed way to the labs as we speak).

The (thoroughly enjoyable) avalanche begins!

In what could the first of a few additions to this story we see more yummy flavours of the 7800GTX from PNY and XFX.

PNY has gone down the sensible route and called their card the “GeForce 7800GTX” (well, might as well call a spade a spade). Like the other cards, it smacks of ass kicking power and has a rather decent bundle which includes Splinter Cell 2 and probably “the” game to play with this baby: Far Cry. The PNY offering also distinguishes itself by designing the only box in history to feature a ginger angel. The PNY GeForce 7800 GTX will set you back £369 smackers and God Bless Alicia at More2 for getting me every detail in one go. Kudos.

XFX is in our good books too, since right now we have one of its 7800GTX cards out staring every piece of hardware in the labs. The trademark X shaped packaging is in full evidence and XFX has also done its homework by giving us Far Cry along with X2 and MotoGP 2. No word on pricing here, but we all know the range by now.
