Uber planning to take on Amazon with same day delivery service

Uber is reportedly planning its own same-day delivery service, which will take on Amazon’s Prime Now service.

While Amazons Prime Now uses bike couriers to make fast deliveries within select cities, Uber Merchant Delivery will apparently use UberRush couriers and everyday Uber cab drivers to make quick deliveries of essential goods.

TechCrunch appears to have obtained training documents intended for these drivers involved in the Uber Merchant Delivery pilot program.

Apparently, Uber is in talks with some 400 merchants to join its prototype program, including some high profile names such as Louis Vuitton, Tiffany’s, and Hugo Boss.

Uber is also apparently harnessing the mobile shopping app Spring as part of this initial test phase to help merchants micromanage stock to the necessary degree. According to those training documents, the company has also built its own separate app just for merchant deliveries.

While Uber drivers who are testing the Merchant Delivery program are currently using a separate app for these item deliveries, the ultimate goal is to combine them with regular human fares using an intelligent routing system – all within a single driver app.

Uber has been investing in US delivery services of late, such as the fresh produce delivery service UberFresh, and meal delivery service UberEats in Chicago and New York.
