Uber comes to Birmingham

Smart taxi service Uber has expanded its UK reach to Birmingham, it’s been confirmed.
While the company offers its private, smartphone-driven taxi service in a number of US cities, UK coverage only extended to three cities – until now.
Britain’s second city, Birmingham, has now joined London, Manchester, and Leeds on the Uber UK roster. The Uber blog recently posted the news as follows:
“We’re proud and excited to announce that Uber is rolling into town in the great city of Birmingham! From today, wherever you’re going, a safe, reliable ride with Uber is just a couple of taps away.”
So how much will Brummies have to splash out for an Uber ride across their fair city? Uber has provided a couple of prime examples.
A trip from Birmingham New Street Station to Selly Oak will cost £5-7, while an Uber journey from The Bullring to Edgbaston will cost £4-6. Finally, a trip from the city centre to Birmingham Airport will set you back an estimated £14-17.
The benefits of Uber are that you can simply drop a pin on your location on the app’s map, and then monitor your car’s progress to you. You can also see how much your requested journey will cost with an in-app fare estimator. You can also share your ETA with others from within the Uber app.
What’s more, you can get your first Birmingham Uber ride for free (up to £15) by signing up and entering the promo code ‘UBERBHAM.’
