Twitter has just announced, and enacted, group direct messaging, finally closing a chapter on years of endless user requests for the feature.
Direct messages, which until today were limited to two people per conversation, can now host multiple users at once.
This falls in line with most other chat services, not least Facebook Messenger, iMessage, and WhatsApp.
The feature is set to roll out to all users over the next few days, so don’t panic if you can’t add your besties to your own special DM posse.
You’ll be able to start group chatting with any of your followers but, fortunately, your followers don’t need to follow each other to get involved in the chat you’re hosting.
Twitter also says you’ll get a notification when you’ve been added to a group DM, so you’ll never miss out on a spammy group convo again. Joy.

The Twitter goodness doesn’t stop there though. The social network also unveiled a new video capture feature for iOS, with an Android update pegged to follow shortly.
Users will be able to shoot and edit footage directly through the Twitter app, although videos are capped at 30 seconds – sorry Peter Jackson.
Twitter’s been putting a lot more focus on video content in recent times, so this new feature seems entirely unsurprising.
