Free World-Title Boxing Coming To Freeview

Watching prime time boxing has, until now, been the preserve

of those with Sky Sports subscriptions or those willing to shell out a one-off

payment for some pay-per-view action.

This weekend however some viewers with TVonics Freeview HD

boxes will get to see a world title fight completely free of charge. The Nathan

Cleverly vs Tony Bellew WBO World Light-Heavyweight

title fight will be streamed live on Channel 112 this Saturday, 15 October.

TVonics is able to do this thanks to a little known feature

of TVonics’ latest digital TV recorders, such as the HV250, Z500 and HD500, which have a port that allows the box to be connected to the customer’s

home Internet service.

That port has recently been enabled to provide access to

catch-up services on the big screen but it can also be used by other Internet

broadcasters to deliver content direct to Freeview viewers.

The fight is being broadcast by the new dedicated boxing

station, BoxNation, which is also available on Sky channel 456. Through a

collaboration with Connect TV and Vision21, the live fight on Saturday night

will also be available on the free-to-air channel Sports Tonight, launched recently

by Kelvin McKenzie.

“Freeview users have been missing out on BoxNation, but

that is set to change,” said TVonics CTO, Andy Carr. “Our latest generation of

digital TV recorders give viewers the very best of traditional broadcast

television and now they can also access high quality, on-demand content via the

Internet port. It’s the best of both worlds without having to shell out for pay

per view.”

In order to ensure your TVonics box is able to receive the

live streaming, they need to check if they have the latest software upgrade

which is available on its website.
