Touchscreen Blackberry On Vodafone UK Next Month

So claim multiple sources...

Get ready to lighten your wallets…

According to fellow UK tech site Pocket Lint, “multiple sources” have confirmed that the much anticipated touchscreen BlackBerry Storm (the Thunder name has now been dropped, as anticipated) will be arriving in the UK as early as next month and exclusively on Vodafone. Verizon – as shown by its teaser promotions (one pictured) – will pick it up in the US.

Overall this news isn’t a great shock as Vodafone has long been BlackBerry’s strongest UK partner and it would make sense to reward the network with its biggest fish to date. What is slightly more unclear however is whether it is an outright exclusive or simply a time limited one. Personally I would expect the latter given the liberal manner with which the BlackBerry Bold is being splashed around networks and Vodafone ultimately getting the Storm with a 2/3 month head start.

Perhaps more worryingly in the long term however is news that the Storm’s controversial pressure based touchscreen interface hasn’t been going down at all well with testers. Deemed slow and antiquated by some we can only hope these are pre-production issues as, quite frankly, we could do with a second decent touchscreen OS to battle you-know-who-with-you-know-what. On the other hand that may arrive from Google later today when we bring you live coverage of the Android G1 launch.

So no pressure RIM…
