Toshiba AT300 Adds Tegra 3, Ice Cream Sandwich To Tablet Lineup

Toshiba has just announced a new addition to its tablet lineup in the form of the AT300, a 10.1in model whose key feature is its Nvidia Tegra 3 processor.

The new tablet looks very similar to the existent AT200, with its square sides, brushed aluminium back and 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution screen but instead of a slightly sluggish dual-core TI OMAP processor, it’s based on Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chip. With four main CPU cores plus one low power CPU core, as well as a graphics chip that’s among the fastest going, it should be a splendidly speedy slate.

Other key features include a full size SD card slot, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash (rear) and 2 megapixel front facing camera also with flash, stereo speakers, 1GB of RAM, microUSB and microHDMI. This means it ticks just about every connectivity and expandability box we’d hope for, and it does all this while only weighing 590g.

The screen also supports 10-finger multi-touch, you’ll be able to get either 16GB or 32GB of inbuilt storage and battery life is 10hours for video and 12h for mixed use. All of which sounds impressive. Only the screen’s fairly standard resolution of 1,280 x 800 is a let down.

We were reasonably impressed by many aspects of the AT200 but ultimately felt it was a little slow, had an old OS and the screen wasn’t all that great. The AT300 should fix at least two of these so should be one to look out for.
