TomTom Spark sports watch announced with built-in music player and 24/7 activity tracking
TomTom has officially unveiled the new TomTom Spark multi-sports GPS fitness watch that includes a built-in music player and is also available with new TomTom wireless fitness headphones
Following up on its Runner Cardio and Multisport range, the sat nav makers have officially introduced a the Spark, a sports watch that now adds activity tracking and the ability to store and listen to music.
Announced at a breifing at IFA 2015, the Spark will come with 3GB of available internal storage and can work with wireless headphones so you can run or work out in the gym without he flailing wires. Playlists can be imported from iTunes and Windows Media player if you’re old school and it’s a simple drag and drop job so you don’t need additional software. TomTom is also preloading music onto the Spark thanks to a partnership with Ministry of Sound.
You’ll be able to track running, cycling, treadmill running and indoor training like previous models and there’ll also be a freestyle mode when you’re off skiing or hiking. To help you put in a worthwhile session, there’s now a new voice coach mode that will tell you when you’re hitting your heart rate zones or if you’re nearing closer to your target distance.
It’s water resistant up to 40 metres so you can take it for a swim and there’s GPS and an optical heart rate sensor on board just like the Runner Cardio and the Multi-Sport. You’ll still have to sync to the TomTom MySports app but you’ll be able to now review stats on RunKeeper and Nike+ services.
Activity tracking is a new feature to the TomTom line-up letting you wear the watch all day and night to monitor steps, calorie burn and sleep, which is done automatically but only records duration.
There’ll be multiple straps available for the Spark and it will be available in a host of different colours if you prefer something a little brighter or low key.
In addition to the Spark, TomTom also announced that it’s launching a pair of splash proof wireless sports headphones and that there will be a further five models in the range including a Spark Cardio, which is essentially like the TomTom Runner but comes without the built-in music player and heart rate sensor. It’ll also be priced in less than the Spark.
The Spark is available to pre-order from today and will be priced at 249 Euros which works out to about £180.
