Apple CEO Tim Cook has dropped further hints an Apple Car is on the way, but cautioned it’s still a long way away.
Responding to a question at Apple’s annual shareholder meeting, Cook likened the wait for the Apple Car to Christmas Eve.
Cook said (via Recode): “Do you remember when you were a kid and Christmas Eve was so exciting? You weren’t sure what was going on downstairs?”
“Well, it’s going to be Christmas Eve for a while.”
Recent indications are that an Apple Car won’t be roadworthy until 2019 at the earliest, which ties into what Cook is saying.

The comments are the boss’s latest acknowledgement of Apple’s interest in the auto sector.
In a Q&A with Fortune last week Cook said Apple’s mass hiring of auto experts, doesn’t necessarily mean the company is going to offer a car for sale.
Cook said: “We don’t have to spend large amounts to explore. So I can’t talk about this certain area that you’re talking about. But when we start spending large amounts of money, we’re committed at that point. But we explore things with teams of people.”
