Three million views for Netflix original “Beasts of No Nation”

Netflix original film ‘Beasts of No Nation’ has racked up an impressive number of views following its release on the streaming service.

Netflix Content Chief Ted Sarandos revealed that the high-profile film has more than three million views in North America alone, while speaking to Deadline,

Those three million views have been accumulated over the course of two weekends.

This is welcome news for the Netflix which struggled to release the film on its own streaming service and in theatres at the same time.

Four US theatre chains, unhappy with a simultaneous streaming release, boycotted ‘Beasts of No Nation’ resulting in a disappointing box office performance.

However, Mr Sarandos was keen to praise the film’s performance among Netflix subscribers, breaking the company’s rule of not releasing viewing numbers.

In the interview he also says “This was No. 1 in really diverse places in the world – Japan, Brazil, Mexico, places where these films typically never even open.”

“It’s been incredibly gratifying to see these audiences respond to this film.”

Directed by True Detective’s Cary Fukunaga, the film stars Idris Elba as an African warlord who trains a young orphan to become a guerilla soldier and join his militia.

It received critical acclaim upon its release, prompting Oscar buzz among critics.
