This is the world’s first virtual-reality cinema

Whether or not you’re sold on the tech, it seems that virtual reality is here to stay.

The world’s first virtual-reality cinema has opened in Europe, and it looks pretty weird.

The project – built by &samhoud media – showcases a number of VR experiences, and is open to the public.

Each seat in the cinema is equipped with a Samsung Gear VR, and the requisite Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone docked inside too. You’ll also be supplied with Sennheiser HD 201 headphones.

Even the seating isn’t conventional; everyone sits on swivel chairs, for full 360-degree spinning.

The cinema, based in Amsterdam, can hold up to 50 viewers at any one time.

It’s worth noting, however, that a number of other cities will also be getting their own VR cinemas. These include Madrid, Berlin, Paris and London.

Tickets for the experience currently cost 12.50 euros, which works out at about £10.

It still isn’t clear whether VR can put a dent in the market share of conventional cinemas.
