This BB-8 car charger will be your co-pilot on the way to the shops

You might not be flying a TIE Fighter into one of the Death Star’s trenches, but now you can take that adorable droid BB-8 with you in the car.

That’s because ThinkGeek has announced the Star Wars BB-8 USB Car Charger. Pop him in your cup holder, and he’ll act as co-pilot while you drive to the shops. His head even rotates, and he makes the same bleeping noises as he does in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Though you can mute him if you’re taking an important call from the Rebel Alliance. Or your better half reminding you to pick up some milk.

You can also adjust the volume to low or high.

Of course he’s useful too. He has two USB ports, letting him charge two phones or tablets at the same time. He’s powered by your car’s 12V cigarette lighter.

He’s an officially licensed Star Wars product, and will charge anything with a USB port, so phones, tablets, GPS etc. Each port gives 2.1 Amps.

You can see him in action in the video at the foot of this story.

He looks like one of the best pieces of Star Wars merchandise yet, which is high praise indeed. It’s not like we’re short of Star Wars tie-ins.

Earlier this week, Disney announced the next proper Star Wars film – the as-yet-untitled Episode VIII – has started filming. It also confirmed the cast, with Benicio del Toro and Laura Dern among the newcomers. It’ll hit cinemas on December 15 2017. This December sees the first spinoff film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in theatres.
