This 45-year-old man 3D printed his own Batman costume

Despite having been inspired by a cave-dwelling rat-bird, Batman’s outfit is actually rather cool, which makes it prime material for cosplayers.

But this latest recreation of the batsuit is a whole other level of epic, and it’s all thanks to the 3D printing.

Assembled by film sculptor Julian Checkley, this incredible Batman costume was created through the magic additive manufacturing, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

It’s based on the outfit from Batman Arkham series and, as such, is delightfully nightstalker-ish.

“We’ve always wanted to do a batsuit and the Arkham Origins one is all beefed up and aggressive and gnarly looking,” explains Checkley, who, at 6-foot 6-inches tall, looks absolutely terrifying in his Batman get-up.

Checkley heads up the Order 66 Creatures and Effects studio in Ireland,
although he had to outsource the 3D printing to a company in Canada.

“We had it 3D printed and casted and brought it back to Ireland to clean it up and try and take it to the next level,” he explains.

Checkley continued: “That includes things like airbrushing, changing the rivets from moulded to real and making an undervest-type thing that’s tough, flexible, and lightweight. We mounted all the outer parts to it and also used it to anchor the cape.”

Once completed, Checkley enlisted the help of a drone to photograph his masterpiece on the rooftops of Galway.

But what does it actually feel like to be the defender of Gotham, or rather Galway?

“At first you feel like a bit of an idiot: you’re a 45-year-old guy dressed in a Batman suit. But you soon forget after a while, and I looked pretty intimidating,” says Checkley. “It’s the most comfortable, lightest, most flexible costume we’ve ever made. You could go and fight crime in it.”
