For all that IT is progressive and fast moving it is notoriously hard on the little guy and nine times out of ten they are simply bulldozed or subsumed by multinationals. The same is true of the high street so now the two sectors are teaming up and fighting back.
TheShoppersBible.com is the result and it is a website that enables members of the public to find the local shops they need in their area so they don’t always have to go to supermarkets or larger chains.
It is the brainchild of David Croissant, a businessman and IT specialist who became angry when his favourite local shop in South London closed due to pressure from larger stores (we’ve all been there, David). In retaliation he has created a site where small retail outlets of any kind can get listed on TheShoppersBible for a yearly fee of £9.99.
Once onboard shops can lists their products, brands or menus, special offers and more enabling customers to quickly locate them using the site’s customisable search engine. Results are shown complete with maps illustrating how to get there, reviews and ratings from other customers, opening hours and even nearby parking.
To encourage small retailers to register TheShoppersBible is celebrating its launch by offering the first 999 premium listings free of charge. A marketing campaign is also in place to boost public awareness of the site across the UK.
TheShoppersBible may not deliver a knock out blow to multinationals but if it can get by dishing out the odd wedgie and devious pinch that’ll be good news for consumers everywhere.
