The SOSPENDO smartphone holder is the beginning of the end

Kickstarter is full of seemingly ill-conceived products that have managed to gain significant backing, and today, we present the latest example: SOSPENDO.
A hands-free wearable stand for smartphones, SOSPENDO has managed to gain more than $40,000 in funding on Kickstarter, heralding the official fall of civilisation.
Essentially a length of adjustable pipe with a phone holder on the end, the device comes from US group Imagination Farm and can be worn around the neck to ensure your smartphone never escapes your gaze.
It’s like a selfie stick that never goes away.
Here’s Richard Ayoade demonstrating the SOSPENDO’s usefulness:
But it isn’t all about selfies. SOSPENDO is much better applied as a tool for helping disabled people who are unable to use their hands to hold the phone.
As such, we can’t begrudge the $41,942 Imagination Farm has managed to rack up thus far too much, although more could have been made of the whole disability aid angle on the device’s Kickstarter page.
It also seems like a genuinely handy tool for holding your phone in the car, as demonstrated by this man who really needs to keep his eyes on the road more:

But we can’t help but feel that keeping your phone permanently in front of your eyes somehow isn’t going to lead to anything good.
Still, if you’re taken by Imagination Farm’s gadget and don’t mind being ridiculed by those around you, you can pick up a SOSPENDO for $25 (£18).
