The one where Netflix UK started streaming every Friends episode

How you doin’? Probably much better now that Netflix is streaming every single episode of Friends as part of the standard subscription.

When hit US sitcom Friends finally came to a close in 2004 – after an impressive 10-season run – it felt like the end of an era. But Friends re-runs meant that nostalgic fans of the show were able to return to the comfort of affordable Manhattan housing and pre-recession disposable income to help weather 21st century living.

That was fine until 2011, when Channel 4 stopped broadcasting Friends and the show moved to Comedy Central, a paid-for channel. Since then, many Friends fans have had to go without the New York six – Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Ross, Joey and Chandler – despite US Netflix viewers having access to all episodes for the last three years.

Fortunately, Netflix UK has caught up with its US counterpart, and is now streaming all 10 seasons of Friends, giving millennials a cord-free way to secure time under the comfort blanket of 90s New York.

Netflix is already making much of the new offering, flooding its Twitter feed with posts advertising the show. In one tweet, Netflix writes: “If you quit your job and watched eight hours of Friends a day, you’d complete it in two weeks. You know what to do.”

Friends first aired on NBC back on September 22, 1994, and ran right through to May 6, 2004. Exactly 236 episodes were broadcast over the show’s run, with Friends eventually becoming one of the most popular television shows of all time. The final episode – titled ‘The Last One’ – racked up an incredible 52.5 million viewers.
