The new Windows 10 Music app looks an awful lot like Spotify

Microsoft has revealed the latest preview version of its Music app for Windows 10, showing off a distinctly Spotify-like design.

The new app hasn’t taken residence in a Windows 10 preview build yet, but the firm has posted a screenshot on the Xbox Support site, uncovered by Twitter user Travis Brown (via The Verge).

The dark theme, left-loaded menu, main artist interface and play menu all look rather, shall we say, Spotify inspired. It also includes recent tracks and suggested playlists on the right side of the app.

Microsoft’s new music app turned up on the Xbox support site, despite Redmond opting to remove the Xbox branding for Music and Video for the launch of Windows 10.

The current version of the app, sitting within the Technical Preview for Windows 10 offers little change from the Windows 8 iteration. However, it appears Windows 10 Insiders might be getting a new music streaming app to test drive sooner rather than later.

The Music app does bear a striking resemblance to the new Xbox app for Windows 10, which began rolling out to users last week. It’s likely the Music app will also feature a white theme, which will certainly give it a less Spotify-like appearance.

Microsoft is planning to launch Windows 10 to consumers this summer, so expect the completed version of the new video app to show up in a preview version soon.
