The new series of Making A Murderer will win back Netflix deserters

Netflix has confirmed that the popular documentary series Making A Murderer will return for a second season.

The streaming giant has announced that it’s returning to Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, to bring viewers up to speed on the cases of convicted killers Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey.

The new episodes, which don’t yet have a premiere date, will chart the progress made by Steven Avery’s new legal team, which volunteered to take on his case following the release of the groundbreaking first season.

Dassey’s legal team is also on board with the series, which will be produced by the original filmmakers that produced the piece from years of chronicling Avery’s legal history.

Creators Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos said: “The new installments will take fans of the acclaimed documentary series back inside the story of convicted murderer Steven Avery, and his co-defendant Brendan Dassey, as their respective investigative and legal teams challenge their convictions and the State fights to have the convictions and life sentences upheld.

This next chapter will provide an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, as well as the emotional toil the process takes on all involved.”

The news comes as a boost to Netflix, which on Monday announced a stagnation in subscriber growth following a recent price hike and its decision to stop honouring long-time subscribers grandfathered rates.

Netflix suffered a 15% fall in shares following the announcement it had grown its US subscriber base by only 160,000 in the past three months.

We have a feeling that the return of the most compelling documentary series of recent times should be enough to lure plenty back into the fold.
