After launching learning thermostats, smoke alarms and home security cameras, Nest’s next innovation may be designed to protect the youngest member of your family.
A patent application published in the US on Thursday revealed Google is working on a “Crib With Embedded Smart Sensors.
The inventor listed on the patent (via CNET) is Nest’s director of product management and hardware marketing Maxime Veron.
Any deviation from the baby’s pattern of behaviour would also be synced back to the app.
In terms of tech and sensors, the crib would feature a camera, pressure sensor, microphone, light sensor, air temperature and humidity sensors and an accelerometer.

So, it seems fair to say the crib may be able to alert parents when a baby is laying in a certain position, when the room is too warm or whether the toddler may be plotting an escape from the enclosure.
The camera and the microphone would also make it the most amazing baby monitor ever produced. The patent also mentions an “entertainment device” which could feature a projector, a speaker and an LED screen.
While patents aren’t always a sign a company is working on a product, it seems fair to say they’d be a fairly sizeable market for Nest on this one?
