The Marshall Emberton is a compact speaker that packs a punch

Venerable audio brand Marshall has introduced a new portable speaker in the Emberton, its smallest yet.

Marshall’s Emberton portable speaker (£129.99) is the smallest in the range, making it a great fit for those who want to take their tunes out of the house and share with other people.

As always with Marshall’s speakers, the newest speaker has a curious name. Could Emberton be a reference to Emberton Park in Milton Keynes, a wide-open space that features plenty of greenery and lakes? It’d certainly fit the Emberton’s features, which Marshall says delivers the loud and vibrant sound that has become the brand’s stock-in-trade.

The Emberton makes use of Marshall’s True Stereophonic sound, a multi-directional, 360° audio performance where, according to Marshall, every spot is a sweet spot. Similar to the Uxbridge desktop speaker, the Emberton offers a sound that’s louder and larger than its confines, packing in a 2 x 10W amplifier so the listener gets the signature Marshall performance.

It’s a speaker suited for the outdoors, and though it doesn’t feature a handle/strap, it’s small and light enough (0.7kg) to be held in one hand. There’s IPX7 water resistance, which means it can be submerged in 1m of water for 30m – perfect for pool parties (or perhaps those moments when someone has accidentally kicked it into a pond). Battery life is a more than decent 20+ hours, and 20 minutes of charging supplies 5 hours of playtime.

Its rugged build ensures that it can survive a few knocks, with the speaker exterior made out of silicone and the grille employing solid metal. Despite its size, the Emberton has still managed to port Marshall’s design aesthetic in a smaller form, echoing its rock ‘n’ roll legacy. On top of the unit is a battery indicator, as well as a multi-directional control knob with which you can play, pause, skip tracks and adjust volume levels. Connectivity is Bluetooth 5.0, and the Emberton will stay connected to devices up to 30 ft away.

The Marshall Emberton is available to purchase from today (July 1st) onwards, for £129.99.
