The Last Of Us Gameplay Trailer Shows Brutal Post-Apocalyptic Survival

Sony used its press conference at E3 to show off a stunning new gameplay trailer for the upcoming post-apocalyptic third-person shooter, The Last Of Us.

The new game follows two protagonists – Ellie and Joel – as they fight to survive in a grim post-apocalyptic world. Initially set in an overgrown and broken down Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the action then spreads further afield as the duo try to find a better life.

Akin to Uncharted in its core visual and gameplay style, it is a far cry from it in terms of tone. Combat is brutal and realistic while the cityscape is desolate and grim, and music is minimal.

The new trailer shows Joel (a 30-something tough guy survivor) and Ellie (a 14-year girl who can’t remember a life before the apocalypse) working their way through a partially flooded cityscape where they end up in a run down fancy hotel. There they encounter a number of hostiles who Joel sets about despatching. The combat is unsettling in its brutality but truly conveys the sense of this being a desperate fight to survive.

The Last Of Us is expected to launch at the end of this year or start of next year.
