Months before Apple took all the flak for ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack, the Moto Z arrived carrying only a USB-C connector for charging and audio transmission.
That trend is set to continue with news the USB Implementer’s Forum has revealed a new specification, specifically designed for manufacturers looking to remove the headphone jack from their handset.
The USB Audio Class 3.0 specification will enable key word voice recognition and boost power efficiency.
It’ll also offer better water resistance and enable slimmer devices by removing the jack, the USB-IF says (via Android Authority).
