The Future’s Bright, The Television’s Orange

Cut loose of your TV set.

TV is evil. It’s the bane of our modern lives, destroying family units, turning our brains to soup and distracting us from that wonderful thing called life. As Why Don’t You (that famous 80s kids’ programme) used to sing: ”“Why don’t you just switch off your television set and go out and do something less boring instead?”” Quite. I’m a creature of contradictions though, because I think Orange TV is a good idea.


My problem with TV is it ties you. You’re slumped in front of it with little more than basic brain waves going on (and often not even that if you watch ITV). Orange TV works differently. It’s television on the go: nine channels including ITN News, CNN, Cartoon Network (for the kiddies, or me if Tom and Jerry is on), extreme sports and dedicated Big Brother and Celebrity Love Island coverage.

Channels are broadcast over the company’s 3G network for a flat rate subscription of £10 per month and suddenly that old Televisual ball and chain loses a lot of weight (as probably, will you).

Currently you’re stuffed if you don’t have a Nokia 6680, but further compatible handsets will follow throughout the year. Just remember to be mindful of passers by as you walk down the street watching Paul Danan and Isabella Hervey get their grove on.
